About Us

Hi, I’m Ben welcome to Vintage Handhelds.

For years, I sold refurbished handheld consoles on eBay. It was a great platform, but between rising fees and the growing urge to do things my own way, I decided it was time to level up, press Start, and open my own shop. That’s how Vintage Handhelds was born.

This store comes from a lifelong love of electronics and a very real case of middle-aged nostalgia. Like many of us who grew up in the golden era of gaming, I have vivid memories of huddling around Nintendos and Sega Game Gears with friends, swapping cartridges, and arguing about who cheated. Those experiences stuck with me and so did the hardware.

Over the years, I found myself especially drawn to the Sega Game Gear platform. It’s iconic, a little over-engineered, occasionally stubborn, and incredibly rewarding when brought back to life. I’ve spent years rebuilding, refurbishing, modernizing, and fine-tuning these systems, and I genuinely love the process. Taking something that no longer works and restoring it to better-than-original condition never gets old.

Every console sold here is hand-built by me and only me. No assembly lines. No outsourcing. No mystery refurbisher in the background. When you buy from Vintage Handhelds, you’re getting a system that I personally rebuilt, tested, and stand behind. If it’s listed for sale, it’s something I’d be happy to keep on my own shelf.

Whether you’re chasing childhood memories, adding to a collection, or discovering classic handhelds for the first time, I’m glad you’re here. Thanks for supporting a small, independent shop and for keeping retro gaming alive.

Now excuse me while I pretend it’s still 1995 and I need six AA batteries.
